It's that time of year again! The 100 Day Project starts TOMORROW so I wanted to invite my fellow artist friends to join in on it too! This year is the year I am taking my little side project, Give Art Gain Hope, a little more seriously. I started this a couple of years ago to encourage kindness and positivity by creating something and leaving it for others to find. I stumbled upon the quote, "beliefs are imprinted through actions," while reading the other night and decided this is the direction I need to go for my project. Each day a new artwork will be made and left somewhere for some unsuspecting soul to find. The idea being that if I truly believe in kindness and compassion, I will live it in my own life not only in hellos, holding doors, smiling at strangers, and other small gestures, but giving in the best way I know how -- through art. I'm excited to see where this goes.
This project was started by Elle Luna (original blog post here; new project website here) a couple years ago. I stumbled across it on a car ride to North Carolina and knew I had to participate. Starting my third project this year, I can honestly say it has completely changed my artistic practice. My first project was lettering, and I cherish those days because I went from barely scripting a word to fully transforming my handlettering in those short 100 days. I was taken aback with all of the praise and encouragement through that body of work. Still to this day I am eternally grateful.
The idea behind the project is all about the process. It is not about making beautiful things, it's about bringing yourself to the task every day and basking in the process. To join, pick an action to do once every day -- something manageable, maybe something you want to learn or improve upon -- and start with us April 4th. Create a unique hashtag (primarily for instagram use) for your project to catalog your work, and also hashtag #the100dayproject to see the community at play right along with you.
